Place your palms together in front of your chest and keep your eyes open.
3
Chant with rhythm
Repeat Nam-myoho-renge-kyo in a clear, steady voice, at a pace that feels natural.
4
Start small
Try five minutes each morning and evening. Chant about whatever matters to you.
What the words mean
Nam means devotion. Myoho is the Mystic Law, the fundamental law of life. Renge, the lotus flower, blooms and seeds at once, expressing the simultaneity of cause and effect. Kyo means sutra, or teaching.
Gongyo
Members also recite portions of the "Expedient Means" and "Life Span" chapters of the Lotus Sutra each morning and evening. Local members are glad to teach you, and you can join community gongyo at the center.
